The Last Book
This proactive print campaign came from a teary conversation with my ma. It was the holidays, and I had just come downstairs from reading a bedtime story to my niece, Stella.
I told ma how much I loved reading to Stella, how special it felt to share that story and have her hanging on each and every word as I read The Gruffalo. My mom said she knew. That she had read to me and my brother every single night for years. Until, one day, I informed her that I was too big to be read to, and would be just fine by myself. I’d had a few glasses of wine at this stage and immediately burst into tears.
That conversation became these poems, which went on to become these print ads after I shared them with my CD, Jo. Because even though I can’t go back to those nights with my ma, there is a place where I can find all the stories we shared.
All the images were sourced from the family scrapbooks of the lovely people at Halo, and all the stories from my tender heart.
