KLIPDRIFT

Brannas vir die Mannas

While we were pitching on Klippies, a little day called New Year’s snuck into the calendar. There I was, a couple of Klipney Houstons deep, trying to not think about the pitch, when I started thinking about the pitch and had a realisation. None of my mates call each other by our government names. Just nicknames. Why? Because that’s what we do with the things we love. Then I remembered that brandy and coke has a fair few nicknames too.

Once the hangover subsided I took those realisations back to the studio, and we came up with the pitch winning idea: Get South Africa to help us collect all the terms of endearment we have for a brannas, and give a year’s supply of Klippies to the best one.

We built a website, collected 4000-odd nicknames, and sold a moerse amount of Klippies. Many of the names were awful, but there were some Kimberley diamonds in the rough, like Babalasstoren. The campaign in it’s entirety is yet to be packaged for awards consumption, but the spot we used to launch it is ready for your viewing pleasure.
